Honest Words For
The Unsteady Seasons

These journals are an extension of Patricia Morgan's writing honest reflections on faith, grief, surrender, and the slow, uneven work of learning to trust God when life stops making sense. They do not offer easy answers or tidy conclusions.

They offer company. Read what meets you where you are.

Healing

The Season I Stopped Waiting for Clarity

Healing is not always recognized while it is happening. There is no clear moment when the weight lifts. More often, you simply notice one day that you are no longer fighting the same thing with the same urgency. The disorientation that once felt like failure begins to feel like honesty. And honesty, it turns out, is where healing actually begins.

I stopped waiting for clarity to arrive before I allowed myself to move. I stopped treating uncertainty as something to outlast. When I finally acknowledged that something had shifted without demanding it explain itself I found I could breathe again. Not fully. Not all at once. But enough. And enough, in those seasons, is everything.
Grief

What Grief Did to My Body Before My Mind Caught Up

Grief is not only emotional. It is physical. It moves through muscle and breath and posture before it ever finds words....

Grief is not only emotional. It is physical. It moves through muscle and breath and posture before it ever finds words. I noticed the aches before I noticed the sadness. I felt the fatigue long before I could explain what I was carrying. The body remembers what the mind is still learning how to hold.

What nobody tells you is that this is not weakness it is the body doing exactly what it was designed to do when something significant has been lost. God understands this language. He does not wait for you to form a coherent prayer before drawing near. He meets grief where it first lands, even when that place feels unfamiliar, even when all you can manage is the next breath. That breath is enough. That breath is survival.
Letting Go

Learning to Breathe When You Can't See the Route

There is a particular kind of fear that sets in when outcomes are unclear and the route you trusted has been rewritten...

There is a particular kind of fear that sets in when outcomes are unclear and the route you trusted has been rewritten. The mind races ahead. It searches for something solid to stand on. It tries to manage what it was never meant to carry alone. I know this because I have gripped that control with both hands and felt it slip anyway.

What I found in the letting go was not emptiness. It was grace. Not wrapped in comfort or delivered with answers, but present steady and unhurried exactly where I released what I could no longer hold. Surrender is not the absence of strength. It is where strength finally stops pretending and trusts something greater than itself. The skies were unsteady. God was not.
